Through many factors such as genetics, weight gain, breast implants, pregnancy or breastfeeding, the pigmented skin around the nipple may become disproportionate to a woman’s shape. Known as the areola, this area can be reduced through the removal of excess tissue, improving their overall appearance.
When performed alone, areola reduction is done under a local anaesthetic. When combined with certain additional procedures, it is performed under a general anaesthetic in our fully accredited plastic surgery clinic. In addition, Dr. Harris uses a sutureless closure to ensure a less noticeable scar, which also offers his patients a microbial barrier that allows patients to shower immediately following the surgical procedure.
Patients who undergo areola reduction can also combine their surgery with breast augmentation, mastopexy (breast lift), or breast reduction.
